Martin Romantschuk obtained his PhD degree in 1987 at the Department of Genetics, University of Helsinki, after which he spent a two year period as an EMBO postdoctoral fellow at the Oregon State University. After working as a senior researcher of the Academy of Finland he was in 2001 appointed Professor of Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki, Department of Environmental Sciences. Currently his main research topics are bioremediation, biological treatment of waste and various other areas where microbes can be used in environmental applications. He is an editorial board member of FEMS Microbiology Ecology and Journal of Basic and Applied Agricultural Research. Topic of Keynote: IN SITU Bioremediation: Possibilities and Limitations (Keynote Abstract)   Dr. Nicolas Abatzoglou is full professor and has served as Head of the Department of Chemical & Biotechnological Engineering of the Université de Sherbrooke (Dec. 2008- Dec. 2012). He is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, Department of Chemical Engineering and presently Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the École Polytechnique de Montréal. Topic of Keynote: Nano-iron Carbide-catalyzed Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis of Green Fuel: Surface Reaction Kinetics-controlled Regimes in a 3-φ Slurry-continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (Keynote Abstract)  Received M.Sc., Ph.D. and D.Sci. degrees in Department of Chemistry, University of Warsaw. He was Visiting Professor in numerous Universities, including long-term appointments in University of Michigan, University of California at Riverside, University of Tasmania, Australia and University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently he is professor of chemistry, and head of Laboratory for Flow Analysis and Chromatography in Chemistry Department of University of Warsaw and head of research group in Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw. He is author of 250 scientific papers in refereed journals, 30 chapters in books, 2 monographic books, and editor of 1 book in the field of flow analysis and automation of analytical measurements. His research interests includes electrochemical sensors and biosensors, flow analysis, liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis for environmental, food and clinical analysis, application of ionizing radiation for water and waste treatment, and application of chemical analysis in archaeometry.
