Dr. Sungwoo Bae is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Before joining t NUS, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Bae received his Ph.D. (Major: Environmental Engineering, Minor: Microbiology) from the University of California, Davis in 2010. Dr. Bae has studied the application of molecular biology in environmental science and gained skills in ecotoxicology through his research. His previous studies of ecotoxicogenomic and metabolomic analysis of zebrafish embryos exposed to triclosan have provided underlying information on triclosan’s toxicity at the molecular level in the aquatic ecosystem. He has expertise in molecular biology and extensive research experiences in the application of molecular biological techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, Next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics) to aquatic toxicology. Particularly, Dr. Bae is interested in the multi-omics approach, including metabolomics, transcriptomics, gut microbiomes, and its role in system biology to explore complex biological networks or systems and understand the dynamics of the genome, transcriptome, and metabolome in engineered and natural environments.

Topic of Keynote:
Multi-Omics Approach on the Ecotoxicological Assessment of Microplastics
