  After studies at the Czech Technical University in Prague (1972) he worked for 20 years in industrial research of medium speed highly turbocharged diesel and gas engines and obtained his Ph.D. in the National Institute of Machine Research 1980. He entered the Czech Technical University as a lecturer in 1982, obtained his DrSc. in 1990 and full professorship in 1993. Since 1994 he has headed the Department of Automotive Technology, having been the dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty (1997-2000) and vice-dean for R7D (2006-). He is focused on engine design and thermodynamic optimizations based on combination experiments and simulation methods, especially with turbo- or supercharging, including adaptive control systems. He developed codes for simulation of turbocharged engines and turbochargers/superchargers and RT models for control purposes. His department is an official partner of Gamma Technologies Inc., the leader in engine and powertrain simulation codes. He has coordinated many national comprehensive projects (e.g., Competence Center for Automotive Industry), took part in 8 EU framework programme projects and collaborated with many European and American engine manufacturers. He is an author of more than 20 patents and more than 100 papers (recently published especially in SAE Journals). (Keynote Abstract)  Mikael Mortensen teaches fluid mechanics as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oslo, Norway (http://folk.uio.no/mikaem/). He pursued his doctoral studies at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. After earning his Ph.D., he has held research positions at the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia, and at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment. He currently holds a position as an adjunct research scientist at the Simula Research Laboratory AS, also in Norway. His research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), numerical methods, turbulence physics and modelling, turbulent combustion, scalar mixing and biomechanics. He is the author and co-author of more than 20 peer-reviewed journal article, conference papers, and book chapters. He is currently most active as a member and developer of the open source FEniCS project (fenicsproject.org), a finite element code-generation framework that provides an extensive collection of tools for the automated, efficient solution of differential equations.
